Approximately 50 automobiles have been marked with what appears to be blood from a person in the Germany's municipality of Hanau near Frankfurt, police confirm law enforcement.
Cars, exterior walls and postal boxes were marked, occasionally with Nazi symbols, they reported in a statement.
Officers report they were alerted during the night on Wednesday, when a individual noticed that a car in the Lamboy district of Hanau had been marked with a red-colored liquid.
The substance had been applied in the pattern of a banned symbol, they added.
Law enforcement then discovered numerous other marked automobiles and building exteriors in the surrounding area.
Nazi symbols are prohibited in Germany under legislation prohibiting the visible presentation of Nazi symbols.
Officials state early analysis indicate the fluid was most likely blood from a person.
"There is still no clue as to its origin; investigators are not yet informed of any injuries in relation with the occurrence," they stated.
Local authorities announced they were trying "to unravel the case" and have asked to the public for tips.
An important official stated the vandalism rendered him without words and had to be addressed rapidly.
"This act hits the core of Hanau and reawakens the trauma of the extremist terrorist attack in 2020," he posted on online, recalling the murder of nine people by a gunman aiming at residents of immigrant origin in five years prior.
